The following professional learning opportunities support this endeavor:

Fall 2024

Distance Education Pedagogy 1 (DE 1)- Peer Online Course Review (POCR) Preparation

  • September 16 - October 11  (4 weeks)
  • This course explores online learning theory, approaches to online course design, and strategies for supporting student success from within the structure of the four sections of the California Virtual Campus Course Design Rubric. Topics include backwards design, interaction, assessment, Open Educational Resources, and accessibility. Students will build sections of a sample course in Canvas Sandbox. This professional learning workshop will prepare faculty to engage in the Peer Online Course Review (POCR).

  • This AS CEETL workshop is funded through the HSI Grant.

Culturally Responsive Pedagogy 1 (CRP 1)

  • September 16 - October 11 (4 weeks)
  • This course provides community college instructional faculty at Napa Valley College with an introduction to Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning (CRTL) pedagogy in the online learning environment. Utilizing an equity framework, the course provides strategies and recommendations for embedding CRTL and other high-impact practices in course design and online classroom practices. Equity and CRTL in the Online Learning Environment is designed to support faculty in reducing equity and opportunity gaps and improving student success outcomes by creating equity-minded online classrooms that are welcoming, supportive, student-centered. Participants in the class will use the principles and approaches discussed in the course to build an equity-minded syllabus, then explore ways they can apply these principles and approaches throughout their online course.
